I like the mix you have been doing. All those options are of interest, with the CGI work perhaps the lowest priority (and probably the most time-intensive for you!)
In some ways CGI is what I do best! But yes, for the proposed book, I intend to use the CGI primarily where the is a lack of clear source material.
I have a LOT of CGI I have done of the Soviet Space programs, and I think maybe quite a few on Social Media follow me for that. And I like to think that I can make a better vision than the fairly low res Soviet era diagrams.
So at the moment I'm really doing whatever I think is coolest, with a strong bias towards the less well known elements, and items where good visuals are available.
