The RGANTD Archive have released some new pictures from Yuri Gagarin’s historic first flight, and I have gathered up some others, including detailed high resolution plans of Vostok.
Vostok 1
Here’s a nice illustration from the time:

In this case the captions survived!

Soviet Era Illustration:
The title reads: “Cabin of the Vostok craft.”

For the modellers:
Scale for the Vostok fairings:
And finally, so extremely clean high resolution plans of Vostok. These have been cleaned and enlarged with AI software, which I find works exceptionally well on line drawings and diagrams.

This Edition’s Cool Link:
In Search of Gagarin’s Capsule.
A Russian blog post going over descent module photos, working out which is which. Computer translation built into the link.
This Edition’s Cool Image:

A couple of notes:
If you wish to support my work, my Gum Road sales page is here:

Including N-1 reference renders, and spacecraft reference photos.
(Literally) Notes:
Substack, (Which hosts this newsletter / website), has started a new service called NOTES. It looks to be a Twitter-like system, but with the clean interface of Substack, and is advert free. I’m still looking at the details, but it’s proving popular with Substack authors. Here’s hoping it gets the user numbers to take off.
It could prove REALLY useful for when I just have a single image to publish, rather than a full article. You can find it here:
And there’s an introductory news article on it here:
That’s all folks!
Nick
