Voskhod 2
This was the mission that accomplished the first spacewalk, by Alexei Leonov.
I recently came across some illustrations that were new to me. As usual click for a larger version. Please don’t republish without contacting me first.
Belyaev was the mission commander, who stayed in the Voskhod cabin while Leonov walked in space.
The spacewalk suit, and the commanders suit were essentially the same design. This was the only mission the design was used.
This Episode’s Cool Link:
Accessing Roscosmos Data.
A bit different this time around. The Roscosmos site is blocked to most people, including me. This is a shame, because they have some good historical documents.
But the WayBackMachine / Internet Archive keeps copies of what it was like before they blocked it to people outside Russia, which is handy for older material. Here’s the most recent version:
https://web.archive.org/web/20220821192658/https://www.roscosmos.ru/
As always, it helps to have a browser with built in translation, such as Chrome.
It gets better! Using the WayBackMachine, you can enter a folder which would not normally be accessible, for example: https://web.archive.org/web/*/https://www.roscosmos.ru/media/files/history/*
And it will give you a list of files it found, in this case historical media:
It gets better!
Using the box at the upper right, you can choose a file type you are interested in:
In this case I typed in PDF, and as you can see, we now get a list of downloadable PDF documents. Filenames may not tell you exactly what you will get, but it’s a seriously useful start. Some of them use RGANTD references for filenames, which is very helpful.
If you click on a document name you will be shown the calendar view again, this is basically to choose the version by date. Click on a blue date, then the time, and you will see the document.
