Nick I think you meant to say that the TK1 mission was similar to apollo NINE, which tested the Apollo CSM and LM in Earth orbit

Any idea why Soviet space designs have so many circles and curves? The US space stuff looks blocky by comparison.

Because the "curved" shells provide the optimal ratio between mass and strength for the fuel tanks and other construction under pressure.
