Someone on Facebook mentioned that they really liked the images I had made by stitching together video frames. I was a little surprised, as the source video is always low quality, and therefore so are the results. But they’ve never been gathered together, and do show things not shown in better quality photos, so I thought it would be worth dedicating a Substack post to them. Most have been cleaned up with AI, so please treat fine details with some scepticism!
N1-3L in the snow:
Rocket Base:
To me, this looks like a photo of a screen, which suggests that there’s a better shot out there somewhere. OK, this is not a stitch.
The Launch Tower:
This stitch is not great - I could not work out how to match different sections all at the same time, but it’s the best detail shot I know of.
You really need to see this full size, so click on it. A very handy stitch of a video panning up the tower, to give a relatively detailed view of all of it.
This shows the set of steps that are suspended below a main strut quite well.

This Edition’s Cool Image:
Cleaned up, enlarged and translated by me. Details of the advanced crewed lunokhod. “Zarnitsa” doesn’t have a simple English translation, it refers to summer lightning seen on the horizon. Presumably a reference to the range of the antenna.
This Edition’s Cool Link:
The Tsiolkovsky State Museum, with translation built into the link.
This website has loads of photos for those seeking Soviet Space References.
